The Laker’s Bench Comes Up Big in a Victory against Aurora

Manitowoc, WI (11.25.2019) - The Lakers welcomed non-conference foe, Aurora University to Manitowoc. In a game where Aurora held the lead to for a vast majority of the game; the "never quit" Lakers find a way to get the victory by the score of 68-65 to notch their 4th win of the season behind strong play from the reverses.  

How It Happened: Out of the gate, the Lakers would fall behind by 10 points with 11:30 left in the first half by the score of 6-16. With 4 minutes left in the first half, the Lakers would turn to their bench to begin to trim into the Spartans lead. Tydarius Fish would knock down a three-pointer off of the assist by Patrick Walls. On the following possessions, fellow freshman Jalen O'Neal would connect on two baskets near the rim to creep the Lakers back within 2 points. Aurora would answer back and take a 4-point lead into the halftime break.

Out of halftime, Patrick Walls and Bryanth Farr would carry the Lakers catapulting them into the lead at 40-39 with 17 minutes left in the game. Aurora was quick to answer with a 6-1 run to regain the lead and more importantly the momentum. O'Neal once again crashed the offensive glass and connected on a putback. This was followed by another basket by Walls to cut the Spartan lead to one point midway through the 2nd half. Aurora again responded with a 9-4 run in a 2-minute span to regain control of the game. Lakers had a response in the name of Tydarius Fish, who would connect on 5 consecutive points to trim the lead. Lakers would knot the score at 58-58 when DeLoran Oliver would bury a three-pointer. Walls would follow with a three-pointer of his own with three minutes remaining in the game to give the Lakers a 63-61 lead. The Spartans answered with a basket of their own knotting the score at 63-63. Fish again would come through in the clutch for the Lakers and bury a three-pointer to give the Lakers the 66-63 edge. Down the stretch, the Lakers defensive tighten and the Spartans would not be able to answer. Dean Jr would seal the victory for the Lakers when he knocked down two free throws to bring to clinch the victory at 68-65.
