The Lakers Fall to Concordia

Manitowoc, WI (9.24.19)- The Lakers came out sluggish against the Falcon's fast-paced offense on Tuesday night resulting in a Laker's loss by the score of 6-1.


How it Happened:

On a beautiful day for soccer, the Lakers faced off against the Falcons of the University of Concordia-Wisconsin. The game was scoreless for the first 20 minutes with both team's defenses being very productive early. Goalie, Isaiah Williams started the game off early with 4 saves for the Lakers. The game's pace was pretty slow in the first half but it started to pick up when the Lakers allowed the Falcons to score within the 16th minute. Goalie, Isaiah Williams tried to save the ball but it hit off his gloves and fell in the back of the net. The Lakers immediately came back on the offensive with a shot on goal that soared over the top of the goal by Cesar Pineda. The Falcons came back on the attack and later scored another goal within the 24th minute. Shortly after, the Falcons scored again within the 25th minute to make the game 3-0. At halftime, the Lakers trailed Concordia 3-0.

Coming out of the break Concordia came back started the second half with the same offensive intensity putting pressure on the Laker's defense. The Lakers responded back by forcing a penalty kick. That was saved by Concordia. The second half started out similar to the first half, slowly placed, very defensive until the Falcons went on a scoring barrage resulting in back-to-back goals in the 57th and 58th minute. With the score 5-0, the Lakers did not give up and applied as much pressure on the Falcons as they could getting multiple shots on goal. Following a corner kick, the Falcons scored again on a header within the 70th minute of the game. In the closing minutes, the Lakers took advantage of great field positioning set up by Santiago Espinal. Cesar Pineda would connect on the assist from Santiago Espinal. The Lakers would go on to fall to the Falcons 6-1.
