Lawrence, KS (11.10.2019)- On a sunny morning in Lawrence the Lakers took on the field at the A.I.I. Conference Championship. The Lakers would finish the day placing 3rd in the 6 team field along with two national qualifying performances to capsule an extraordinary day for the Lakers.
The Lakers were led by Elias Soto, who finished 3rd overall with a time of 27:05 on the 8k course, earning Soto a 1st Team All-Conference nod and qualification for the NAIA National Championships. Coach Tiberg, on Soto's performance, "Elias ran his most complete race of the season. He has had a great season and earned this trip to Nationals to compete against the best in the NAIA."
The Lakers also saw another 1st Team All-Conference nod and qualification for the NAIA National Championships from Uriah Aili who placed 5th place with a time of 27:35. Coach Tiberg, on Aili's performance, "Uriah didn't necessarily have his best time but he ran well and earned his trip to Nationals to compete against the best in the NAIA."
The Lakers remaining top five were led by Nolan Portteus and Maurico Diaz; each running great races placing 18th and 22nd with times of 29:39 and 30:26 respectively.
The Laker's top five was rounded out by Valdemar Luna who placed 24th with a time of 30:31 on the 8k course.
The A.I.I. Conference Championship was won by College of the Ozarks with a team score of 31 followed by Haskell Indian Nations with a score of 39.
